Privacy Policy

1. Who We Are

LitLock ("we," "us," or "our") is a mobile application that helps users earn screen time by reading books. We are operated as an individual developer based in the United States. You can contact us at hello@LitLock.app.

2. Information We Collect

We collect the following information when you use LitLock:

• Account information: Your email address when you create an account or join our waitlist.
• Reading activity: Books you add, page ranges you log, and reading summaries you write.
• App usage data: Which apps you choose to lock, your screen time wallet balance, and streak data.
• Device information: Device type, operating system version, and app version for debugging purposes.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

• Provide and improve the LitLock app and its features
• Verify your reading comprehension using AI (your summaries are sent to Anthropic's API for grading)
• Track your reading streaks and screen time wallet balance
• Send you important updates about the app (not marketing spam)
• Fix bugs and improve app performance

4. AI Processing of Reading Summaries

When you submit a reading summary, it is sent to Anthropic's Claude AI API for comprehension grading. This means your summary text is processed by a third-party AI service. We send only your summary text and the book title — we do not send any personally identifying information to Anthropic.

5. Data Storage

Your reading activity, wallet balance, and streak data are stored locally on your device using AsyncStorage. We do not currently maintain a remote database of your reading history. Your email address (if provided for the waitlist) is stored securely and used only to notify you of the app launch.

6. Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for advertising or marketing purposes. We may share data only in the following limited circumstances:

• Service providers: Anthropic (AI grading), Apple/Google (app distribution), and analytics tools used solely to improve the app.
• Legal requirements: If required by law or to protect our legal rights.
• Business transfer: In the event of a merger or acquisition, your data may be transferred to the new owner.

7. Children's Privacy

LitLock is designed for users of all ages, including students. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without verifiable parental consent. If you believe we have inadvertently collected information from a child under 13, please contact us immediately at hello@LitLock.app and we will delete it promptly.

For users under 18, we encourage parents to review this privacy policy and supervise their use of the app.

8. Your Rights

You have the right to:

• Access the personal information we hold about you
• Request correction of inaccurate information
• Request deletion of your account and associated data
• Opt out of any marketing communications

9. Data Security

We take reasonable measures to protect your information from unauthorized access, alteration, or disclosure. Reading data is stored locally on your device. Email addresses collected for the waitlist are stored with industry-standard security practices.

However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security of your data.

10. Third-Party Services

LitLock uses the following third-party services:

• Anthropic Claude API — AI reading comprehension grading
• Apple App Store / Google Play — App distribution and in-app purchases
• RevenueCat — Subscription management
• Expo / EAS — App building and updates

Each of these services has its own privacy policy governing their data practices.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and notify users through the app if the changes are significant. Your continued use of LitLock after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
